On Thursday Oct 11th, the wind reports were all favourable for Cherry
Beach.
SW wind predicted, building late in the afternoon. I packed the gear in the car in the morning and made sure my
work calendar was clear from 3pm on. I
was at my desk at 2:30 and checked the wind report. It was dying and had been since noon. Oh well, I finished my last emails and drove
down to the beach just to be sure. And
what a pleasant surprise, it was actually building. I sailed on my Skate 108 and 6.2 Duke from 4 – 5:30. I caught the best
of it – true west wind. Once it shifts
to NW, even if there is more wind, it is too gusty to enjoy.
12c and my fingers and toes were pretty cold by the end of
it. I did try 3 vulcans and failed on
all, but did get duck gybes, upwind 360s and one downwind 360. I'm finally posting this a few weeks later and sadly indeed that was the last session for the year - the gear is all packed away now.
