Arrival in Bonaire!

After 74 days of skiing this winter and six cold days of foiling in March, we decided that a trip to Bonaire would be perfect to start working on windsurfing, coaching and foiling skills for 2024.

Yeah Jibe City and a Skate 108!

It was a nice direct flight and vacation package with WestJet from Toronto to Kralendijk. Jen and I arrived at 3 in the afternoon got through customs super quickly. Picked up our rental truck (in a new building) promptly too. We went to the Van den Tweel supermarket getting sunscreen and then straight to Jibe City for a 5 till 6 o’clock windsurf session.

Klein Bonaire

Big cruise ships!

It’s windy!

Thanks WestJet

I wasn’t really expecting to get on the water on our travel day but what a nice surprise! The wind wasn’t quite enough for the Fanatic Skate 108 and 5.6m Freek sail that I picked out (not enough Duotone sails rigged) but I had some great runs and had fun. Also my carving downwind 360 and upwind 360 almost happened - with falls into the nice waist deep water just as I was ending the moves.

Blasting away

And back

And freestyle

Heading to the shallow spot where you can see the fish scamper!

A bit of north in the east wind!

Only two properly completed jibes…

I was able to do some nice light wind 360’s during some lulls. Top speed 21 knots and just about an hour on the water.10 km for a great first day of Windsurfing for 2024. Jen took the photos while enjoying a glass of wine and reading at the Hangout Bar.

Looking forward to trying the foiling at Frans Paradise but I think I’ll stick with the familiarity and comfort of Jibe City for the next few days. They do have nice Duotone gear!

We got back to the resort had cocktails and bitterballen watching the sunset and had a really good sleep.
