Skiing and wing slogging

The wind was supposed to last all afternoon. So I went skiing in the morning. Had a great time and watched as the offshore west wind switched to NW. Went home and loaded up the wingfoiling gear and headed to Sunset Point Beach.

Not enough wind to get going!

The wind looked nice side onshore and I quickly got the board set up and put on my 6/5/4 wetsuit. It was getting lighter and my iWind meter showed 9 knots. I pumped up the 7m Slick wing and quickly headed out. It was soooo light that I could barely stand up. I also realized that I hadn’t locked the car. I slogged back and left the board and wing in the water while I clambered up the rocks and hit the lock button on the car.

Nice morning of skiing

GPS of the ski session

Looking good for an afternoon of foiling
after the switch from west to NW

Still a decent wind just as I was heading out

Nice clear water

Heading out - already feeling the wind is dying

Taxiing out to the deeper water

Back on the water and it was even lighter. I couldn’t even tell what direction the wind was coming from. I decided to practice paddling the board with my feet on the wing. I paddled straight out 100 metres and felt like I was 1/4 spent. So I need to keep myself within 400m from shore. Looking at my session on Monday, I was heading out 600m on each run. Nice to know I wasn’t going out much farther than that!

Some back an forth slogs and one 100m paddle straight out

I missed the windy time of the day!

It did pick up to 6 knots again at the end and I did a longer slog out and back checking out the bathymetry which was easy to see with the clear water. Once out past the few boulders near shore it is pretty foil safe depth.

I went back in and met nice Mike on shore who shared his video of me which is where the screen shots are from. Thanks Mike!

On the way home I had a Frappuccino at Starbucks - it was so warm out! Oh well, can’t win ‘em all.
