I hadn’t been checking the wind forecast and was a bit surprised when I was finishing up my snowboarding session that the Sunset Beach group chat was talking about going out on Georgian Bay.

I did every open run |
I got home loaded up the car and was encouraged when another friend started texting me about the whitecaps at Sunset point. Jen joined me and watched as I got rigged up. While she was out for her walk, I started working my way quite a ways upwind having a good time.

Decent wind on shore when I launched |
After two falls, I did probably a dozen jibes in a row. I felt great about that, and started working my way back down wind riding more waves. On one wave, I switched hands and was completely flagging the wing from the front handle while riding the wave. That one didn’t last too long but on my second try, I got quite an extended downwind foil. The key was really only focusing on balancing my feet with the wing completely neutral in my left hand.
It is challenging riding toe side down the wave but it was a really cool feeling. I'll want to get a lot more practice jibing on the wave with the wing neutral.

It wound up building for the rest of the afternoon! |
After a bunch more runs working my way back up wind and downwind I came in with a big smile on my face. I didn’t actually get have GPS working for this one. So my hand drawn recollection of my path is the best I can do there. Jen got some great photos though!

My simulated GPS trail Guessing 8km in 50 minutes? |
Not sure if I’m gonna get another session in before we head down to warmer climates but pretty excited with what happened on this surprise session.
