Hatteras day 1

Jen and I had a smooth drive out of Canada for the first time in 2 years and it was fun to get back into the States.

Dunkin donuts roadtrip!

Great highways

I would drive 500 hundred miles
And I would drive 500 more…

And some sleet

Amazing scenery

After a noisy, smoky night in a hotel in Greensboro and picking up Phillip in Raleigh we rolled into Avon and immediately headed to Ocean Air sports to get my 5.6 baton repaired. Derek from ABK and Delta was there and quickly identified the best way to get that sail ready for our two weeks in Hatteras.

We had a late lunch and got to the house just as the wind was building. We are staying with a bunch of cool Ontario windsurfers/kiters/foilers in one of those huge Hatteras sound side houses up on stilts.

First Oysters of the trip!

I rigged my 6.2 and Skate 108 and got a few runs in the 15 knot West wind. It was reasonably warm at 13c and I was comfy in my 3/2 long sleeved suit as I didn’t really fall in. Once Phillip got back from grocery shopping he was keen to get out so I gave him the 6.2 and the Techno 148. He got some good planing runs and some nice tacks.

First windsurf session of 2022

I set up the 99 foil on the 24inch mast under the Stingray and walked back out to the deep water. There are a lot of foilers here in Hatteras so it seems safe to foil if you get far out enough. I got some nice runs and spent some time out with the gang standing and chatting in the waist deep water. It was great to be out with Phillip on the water and then watch him get back upwind to the house.

First windfoil session of 2022

We had a wonderful post session hot tub soak with the first of many PBRs and good conversation. Pizza and the movie Grown Ups in the 17 seat home theatre finished a great day 1. Not much wind predicted for tomorrow - maybe a late day session?
