New wingfoil moves

Like son like father? Our surf session...

Our first morning in Hatteras and the wind had dropped. It was warm and Jen and I went for a 5 km walk around the neighborhood. The walk was important as it helped relieve a painful left kneecap which I think was just tight from 4 days of driving!

I picked up my sail at Ocean Air Sports and we checked out some rental bike options for later in the week. It was fun to take Phillip to Pops restaurant for lunch in Buxton. We connected with Bryan, Johnny, Geoff and Mike at the Frisco parking spot that serves both sound and ocean launches.

Jen and Phillip headed out surfing and we were grateful to have Len's nice board with us. Jen got some confidence and got herself out past the shore break. Phillip got his few first rides on the surfboard he hasn't had a chance to use since getting it as a birthday present last year. I went out for a quick session until someone called shark and we all headed in. It turned out to be a pod of dolphins.

My surf session - check out the April temperature!

Not a shark

A pod of dolphins!

A quick stop at Dollar General and ABC liquor and we were back at the house where the wind was now building.

Phillip headed out on the 6.2 and Freewave 116. That was his first time on a short board in many years. He was having fun and while he couldn't tack it, the shallow water made for easy transitions and he’s getting dreams of carving jibes. Jen went out on the Techno and 5.6 and got going super fast several times.

Jen out for the first time this year!

Phillip getting used to a smaller board

I eventually headed out on the Skate 108 and 5.6 but it wasn’t quite enough. I pumped up the 6.0 Echo wing and Stingray with the 99 foil. I had a super fun sunset session. I was sailing switchstance on many runs and doing downwind foil jibes with no touchdowns. Wingfoiling for the win today.

Then spaghetti on the wing and foil

Windsurfing is faster, wing foiling is more consistent
(speed in knots)

I even did a few linked jibes without switching my feet. What fun. Some baja fogs in the hot tub and dinner was a yummy taco night with good conversation around the massive 15 person dinner table.

More wind in the forecast for tomorrow. Yeah!
